A flurry of activities has erupted after the re-opening of
the hippodrome in Mijas. Fortunately many people have responded to the request
to send a mail in protest to the authorities in Mijas. And many more have come
on board.
Contrary to the claim by the director of the hippodrome that from all over the country there was a tremendous interest by galgueros, only 35 galgueros are reported to have registered for the race. Thirty-five to many, we would say, but not enough to warrant massive interest. And also his arguments for an increasing economic activity and jobs also seem to fall short. Was it not because of lack of interest from the public that the racetrack in Malaga and Barcelona had to close? So it seems to be only in the interest of few that
the hippodrome was re-opened, but it could be to the destruction of many galgos.
Fortunately Charlotte of 112carlotagalgos has been working all day trying to trace and talk to those in charge. And that turns out to be a difficult task. Her urgent calls are being forwarded from the authorities in Mijas, to the department of Agriculture, only for her to be sent on to the department of Sports. But Charlotte is relentless! For all those who want to contribute more and again, she has asked to also send a letter of protest to:

These are respectively the department of Agriculture, Sports and the junta of
Andalusia.
Furthermore, Galgos en Familia keeps on their important work and reported that many Spanish non-profit organisations have already written to the authorities. They will
also be in contact with PACMA, the Spanish political party for animal rights, about the situation. They would be a great help indeed.
Though many things seem to be happening at the same time, it only has one goal: to
stop greyhound racing to take a foothold in Malaga again. Let us all work on
this!
